Patient Surveys

We are asking patients who are diagnosed with bowel cancer, and who live in Yorkshire and the Humber region, to consent to participate in the study by completing three surveys; one at the time of diagnosis, one twelve months later and a final one three years after diagnosis.

The results from these surveys will help us obtain a comprehensive ‘picture’ to understand the patients' quality of life at diagnosis and how this changes over a one and three year period. This will add depth to already available information in order to direct the education programme for the clinical teams.

Patients with bowel cancer being treated in participating hospitals will be asked to consent to participate in the collection of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) via patient questionnaires. The data from the PROMs will be linked to the rest of the integrated dataset in the secure environment within NHS England.  The study team will receive a de-identified copy of the linked data from NHS England. The study team will use this data to develop intelligence to identify clinical areas that could be improved and develop educational programmes to address them specific to the professional group of concern (e.g. pathologists, surgeons), and subsequently assess the impact of these educational interventions on the outcomes of bowel cancer patients in Yorkshire and Humber.

The study team received ethical approval to conduct this study from the Solihull - West Midlands Research Ethics Committee in December 2017.

The study is listed on the ISRCTN, the UK's Clinical Study Registry: Link to the YCRBCIP entry on the ISRCTN Study Registry

The results from the PROMs analysis will be published in peer reviewed journals and made available on our publications page once it has been accepted for publication:Link to the YCRBCIP Publications

Due to technical issues we are no longer able to offer patients the option to complete the patient survey online.  If you have a login code and are trying to complete the survey online please contact Deputy Project Manager, Emily Connearn (e.connearn@leeds.ac.uk) and she will be able to advise and assist you.
